Comic Actor Jason Alexander Behind the Camera for a Serious Cause |
 |
Emmy-nominated actor Jason Alexander recently made his commercial directorial debut by directing two of the foundation's public service advertising spots. Alexander directed the public service announcements (PSAs) "Dinner" and "Movie" for Don't Pass Gas, an American Legacy Foundation PSA campaign focused on the issue of secondhand smoke. The PSAs, consisting of two television and two radio ads, are designed to amuse viewers while calling attention to the seriousness of secondhand smoke. The Don't Pass Gas campaign is part of a partnership with the Advertising Council.
Former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona announced in a report earlier this year that no level of secondhand smoke is safe. The report found that these children are at increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, asthma, ear infections, and a lower level of lung function. Thirteen million American children are exposed to secondhand smoke at home.
The campaign is designed to educate the American public, parents in particular, about the dangers of secondhand smoke and to urge everyone to create smoke-free environments for their families.
The Don't Pass Gas PSAs were created by Legacy's agency of record for prevention, Crispin Porter + Bogusky of Miami, Florida.
