National African American Drug Policy Coalition

Legacy co-sponsored the summit, which focuses on the health and well-being of vulnerable populations within the African American community. The National African American Drug Policy Coalition is a unique collaborative initiative to address the problem of drug abuse in the African American community with each member organization (National Bar Assn., Assn of Black Psychologists, National Assn of Black Social Workers, CBCF, National Black Nurses Assn., National Black Alcoholism and Addictions Council, National Medical Association, to name a few) contributing distinct intellectual content, practices and procedures for eradicating the deleterious societal effects of drug abuse.
National Tribal Tobacco Prevention Network
National Native Leadership Institute on Tobacco

The National Native Leadership Institute on Tobacco conference is expected to yield more than 300 participants, representing more than 95 tribes, villages and tribal organizations. It is the largest annual gathering of American Indian affiliates and advocates of tobacco abuse prevention in Indian Country. The following topic areas will be covered:
Tobacco use and practices
Tobacco Company advertising/counter marketing
Youth initiation and prevention
Secondhand smoke
Smoking cessation
The National Tribal Tobacco Prevention Network is an expanding alliance of tobacco prevention and education advocates committed to improving the wellness of American Indian and Alaska Native people by working to reduce commercial tobacco use. To support its National partners in developing effective and culturally appropriate tobacco prevention and education programs, the NTTPN offers technical assistance, trainings, links to resources, and regular opportunities for networking and collaboration between tobacco prevention advocates from around the country. The NTTPN also hosts an announcement-style List Serve to facilitate communication between advocates and to distribute relevant updates, announcements, and alerts.

Disparities Training for States
April 17-19, 2007

Legacy will provide support for this training, which focuses on guiding states through the process of developing a strategic plan and implementation plan for identifying and addressing tobacco-related disparities in their states. This training will help states develop a plan for marketing their proposed disparities initiatives, identify and develop strategies for sustaining their workgroup, and clarify how to integrate and sustain their disparities plan into their overall program plan.
Legacy's Associate Vice President for Priority Populations Helen Lettlow will participate on a panel discussion on sustainability.
