American Legacy Foundation® Invites Everyone to Join the Circle of Friends® New York Mini 10K – the Only Race Where the Goal is to Quit

For the third consecutive year, the American Legacy Foundation® joins New York Road Runners in sponsoring the Circle of Friends® New York Mini10K race in New York City's Central Park. This event on June 10th is meant to increase public awareness while raising funds for programs to help women quit smoking.

The Mini10K, the world's first women-only road race and one of the most popular races on the New York running circuit, attracts thousands of participants for a great cause – to support women who want to quit smoking. Participants can either run in the Mini 10K (women only), walk the 2.6 mile co-ed Fun Walk, or cheer from the co-ed Fan Zones. Participants also have the opportunity to raise donations for American Legacy Foundation® through personalized fundraising Web pages on www.mini10k.org.

Also participating in this year's Mini10K is a group of seven women from New York City's five boroughs who pledged to quit smoking in March 2006 and to train for their first road race. The women, who range in age from their 20s to their 50s, meet each week to train and participate in a smoking cessation support group, which illustrates the fact that social support is a critical component in the battle to quit smoking.
