Youth Tobacco Prevention Grants Available

Under-served communities will be able to develop and implement their own youth tobacco prevention projects through a new grants initiative announced by the foundation. The truth® or Consequences Youth Tobacco Prevention Grants Program allows community organizations to leverage the enhanced truth® media campaign already in their areas and design and implement youth-driven projects focused on creating change and reducing youth tobacco use in their local communities. This grant program will further boost the impact of the truth® advertising and reach a broader range of youth in the regions, including young people in communities that typically have less exposure to such campaigns and prevention programs.

The programs must be implemented in the following 18 states: Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and Wyoming. Qualified organizations from any of the states and territories identified in the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) are eligible for funding, although preference will be given to organizations located in the states listed above. Grant guidelines and more information can be found at www.americanlegacy.org. The deadline for letters of intent is Friday, Sept. 7.
