Smoke Free Movies International Week of Action, Feb. 18-24
Partners around the country are gearing up for the 2008 Smoke Free Movies International Week of Action: a global movement of more than 15 countries on four continents to raise awareness of "toxic movies." Hollywood movies deliver tobacco impressions estimated in the billions to young audiences annually around the world. In the U.S. alone, the depiction of smoking in movies recruits nearly 400,000 new teen smokers each year. Similar effects have been seen in other countries from Mexico to Germany and New Zealand.
We are distributing a tool kit to partners to coordinate national media/advertising opportunities, grassroots advocacy activities in major hubs in the US (NYC, LA and DC). Your organization can join groups around the world in bringing attention to this issue so that Hollywood can hear this message and save lives: Stop Toxic Movies.
Highlights of the Advocacy Tool Kit:
- Check List and Timeline
- Key messages/Talking Points
- Activity and Media plans
- Sample media materials: public service announcements, press releases, letters to editor, etc.
