Legacy Hits the Ground Running American Legacy Foundation® Joins the ING NYC Marathon 2007 Charity Program |
 |
The American Legacy Foundation is teaming up with the New York Road Runners as a charity partner for the 2007 ING New York City Marathon. Marking the second year of this cause-worthy alliance, Legacy will have the opportunity to guarantee 50 runners entry to this world-class road race. The event will take place on Sunday, November 4th, throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
Spots in the ING New York City Marathon are highly coveted. From a pool of more than 90,000 applicants, only 37,000 will be selected to race in front of the marathon's two million spectators and 315 million television viewers (is this number right? That doesn't sound right. That's more than who watches the Super Bowl). By registering in support of Team Legacy, runners are guaranteed spots if they raise a minimum of $2,500. As a charity partner, the American Legacy Foundation will receive funds to further its life-saving mission of building a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit smoking. "Runners nationwide and their network of family and friends now have an opportunity to support programs aimed at helping people quit smoking, as well as to provide valuable resources through an event that truly celebrates health, spirit and determination," said Cheryl Healton, Dr. P.H., President and CEO of the American Legacy Foundation. Fundraisers will also be eligible for additional rewards based on their level of contribution.
To be guaranteed entry in the marathon, runners are encouraged to register between June 1st and September 30th. Slots fill quickly so potential runners should register online as soon as possible at www.americanlegacy.org/ingnycmarathon.
