Great Start® New Campaign Offers Hope to Pregnant Smokers and Their Babies |
 |
This month the American Legacy Foundation, together with the Ad Council, launched Great Start®, a public service campaign aimed at helping pregnant smokers quit. The campaign consists of two public service announcements (PSAs) for distribution to radio stations in 25 states and the District of Columbia, as well as four print PSAs to appear in magazines throughout the country. The PSAs will promote the Great Start® quit line (1-866-66-START), a national quit-line to help thousands of pregnant smokers get the resources they need to quit smoking.
Every year, more than 350,000 American women smoke during pregnancy, exposing unborn children to numerous health risks, including premature delivery, low birth weight, childhood asthma, sudden infant death syndrome, and other illnesses.
