NCTOH

Tobacco control researchers, advocates, leaders, and lobbyists; public health officials, smoking cessation experts, health policy advisors, and legislative representatives from national, state, and local levels gathered to discuss public health and tobacco control at the 2007 National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH) in Minneapolis, Minnesota from October 24 to 26.

Throughout the course of the NCTOH, Legacy staff gave a number of presentations. Presentations included information about new and upcoming perspectives on tobacco, youth exposure to smoking in movies, Legacy's Code Blue lung cancer campaign, recent updates to the EX® and Don't Pass Gas campaigns, smoking and pregnancy, tobacco product placement on television and tobacco control efforts. Legacy also honored the Tobacco Industry Document Award winners at a reception on Thursday evening.

"The conference is one of the best ways to learn and discuss innovative and important trends in tobacco control," commented Dr. Cheryl Healton, President and CEO of the American Legacy Foundation, who also made several presentations at the conference. "It is impossible to effectively counter the vast resources of the tobacco industry unless there is collaboration with others involved with public health and tobacco control, and NCTOH is always a valuable resource to share ideas and best practices."

This year, the conference was held at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Conference attendees exchanged new and old research ideas, discussed practical ways to improve tobacco control program, made contacts with colleagues, and left the conference with a sense of renewed energy and commitment to tobacco control.
