Dr. James Sargent

James D. Sargent, M.D. is a Professor of Pediatrics and Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School and lead researcher of Legacy's newly published First Look Report: Trends in Top Box Office Movie Tobacco Use 1996 - 2004. The report focuses on the prevalence of smoking in youth-oriented movies and looks at its impact on youth smoking initiation.

Dr. Sargent, a licensed pediatrician and behavioral epidemiologist, is part of a Dartmouth group whose research focuses on understanding adolescent behavior in general and how it is linked to exposure to movies. Sargent is Director of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research program at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and maintains a practice in general pediatrics at Dartmouth's Children's Hospital, where he has been in practice since 1989.
